چکیده

A convective Cahn-Hilliard type equation of sixth order that describes the faceting of a growing surface is considered with periodic boundary conditions. By using a Galerkin approach the existence of weak solutions to this sixth order partial differential equation is established in L2(0, T ; Ḣ3 per). Furthermore stronger regularity results have been derived and these are used to prove uniqueness of the solutions. Additionally a numerical study shows that solutions behave similarly as for the better known convective Cahn-Hilliard equation. The transition from coarsening to roughening is analyzed, indicating that the characteristic length scale decreases logarithmically with increasing deposition rate.

Global Solvability and Blow up for the Convective Cahn-hilliard Equations with Concave Potentials

We study initial boundary value problems for the convective Cahn-Hilliard equation ∂tu+ ∂ 4 xu+ u∂xu+ ∂ 2 x(|u| u) = 0. It is well-known that without the convective term, the solutions of this equation may blow up in finite time for any p > 0. In contrast to that, we show that the presence of the convective term u∂xu in the Cahn-Hilliard equation prevents blow up at least for 0 < p < 4 9 . We a...

Stationary Solutions of Driven Fourth- and Sixth-Order Cahn--Hilliard-Type Equations

New types of stationary solutions of a one-dimensional driven sixthorder Cahn-Hilliard type equation that arises as a model for epitaxially growing nano-structures such as quantum dots, are derived by an extension of the method of matched asymptotic expansions that retains exponentially small terms. This method yields analytical expressions for far-field behavior as well as the widths of the hu...

On a Cahn--Hilliard--Darcy system for tumour growth with solution dependent source terms

We study the existence of weak solutions to a mixture model for tumour growth that consists of a Cahn–Hilliard–Darcy system coupled with an elliptic reactiondiffusion equation. The Darcy law gives rise to an elliptic equation for the pressure that is coupled to the convective Cahn–Hilliard equation through convective and source terms. Both Dirichlet and Robin boundary conditions are considered ...

Optimal distributed control of a nonlocal convective Cahn–Hilliard equation by the velocity in 3D

In this paper we study a distributed optimal control problem for a nonlocal convective Cahn–Hilliard equation with degenerate mobility and singular potential in three dimensions of space. While the cost functional is of standard tracking type, the control problem under investigation cannot easily be treated via standard techniques for two reasons: the state system is a highly nonlinear system o...

The convective Cahn-Hilliard equation

We consider the convective Cahn–Hilliard equation with periodic boundary conditions as an infinite dimensional dynamical system and establish the existence of a compact attractor and a finite dimensional inertial manifold that contains it. Moreover, Gevrey regularity of solutions on the attractor is established and used to prove that four nodes are determining for each solution on the attractor...
